Requirements at Merit Badge College 2022

The majority of the requirements for the Communications merit badge were completed at the 2022 Merit Badge College at Delta State University held on January 8, 2022.  Items that were signed off in my Boy Scout Handbook are not documented here.  The items below are the additional requirements that I needed to complete outside of the camp.

Section 5

Attend a public meeting (city council, school board, debate) approved by your counselor where several points of view are given on a single issue. Practice active listening skills and take careful notes of each point of view. Prepare an objective report that includes all points of view that were expressed, and share this with your counselor.
I went to the Crosswind PTA meeting that was held on Feb 8, 2022.
During the meeting there were many announcements about future activities.  One of the main highlights of the meeting was awarding the PTA Life Achievement award, which was given to my mom, Julie Hendrick!  I took pictures of the ceremony for my mom!  Another noteworthy part of the meeting was the time for voting on business matters.  Unfortunately, there were not enough voting members available at the meeting to have a proper vote, so the agenda items were deferred to another meeting.  It was interesting to see the meeting conducted with Robert's Rules of Order.

Section 7b

Create a web page or blog of special interest to you (for instance, your troop or crew, a hobby, or a sport). Include at least three articles or entries and one photograph or illustration, and one link to some other web page or blog that would be helpful to someone who visits the web page or blog you have created.
Please see this website 🙂

Section 8

Plan a troop or crew court of honor, campfire program, or an interfaith worship service. Have the patrol leaders' council approve it, then write the script and prepare the program. Serve as master of ceremonies.

For this requirement, I served as the Master of Ceremonies for the Troop 56 Court of Honor that was held on August 15, 2022.  I worked with my merit badge counselor, Mr. McNeal to generate a script for the ceremony.  Mr. McNeal worked with me to put in the names for each award and he helped me with the pronunciation of names.

I studied the script and made some small edits.  The day of the ceremony, I met with Robbie and Mr. Quirk to finalize a few details before the ceremony started.  Mr. Quirk also advised me to make sure that all the scouts that were to be announced were in the audience.

I was able to complete the MC duties for the COH on August 15, 2022.  The ceremony started at 7 PM and lasted until approximately 7:45 PM.  I did all this the same day that I had a tooth removed!  Despite having a numb mouth, I was able to get through the meeting.
